The History of the House and Environs of the Roxford Lodge Hotel

This elegant Hotel was originally built in the Victorian times. The street that the hotel is situated on is wide and tree lined and the large red brick houses have stunning architectural features from the Victorian era.
The area of Ballsbridge was exclusively an upper class enclave in Victorian times, so it is no wonder that this area is now the home of many of the world’s embassies and diplomatic representatives. Of all of the areas in Dublin, Ballsbridge has the least built-up and the most exclusive feel. Yet, despite the space and relative tranquility, Ballsbridge is only minutes away from the city center.

Northumberland Road played a noteworthy role in one of the most significant events in Irish History – the 1916 Rising

The road on which the Roxford Lodge hotel is located - Northumberland Road – is also steeped in history as this is where the bloody Battle of Mount Street Bridge took place during the 1916 Rising.

It was here on Northumberland Road that one of the historical moments of Ireland’s journey to Independence took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, the 26th of April, 1916. Handfuls of Irish Volunteers were strategically placed in the houses along Northumberland Road, the most notable one being No. 25 Northumberland Road and in buildings close to Mount Street Bridge. There are a few monuments in the area to mark the Irish State.

The Victorian Era

This elegant Victorian House offers the guest a unique taste of Victorian life with its elegant lounge, its high coved ceilings, splendid chandeliers, and its large grand windows. Every detail has been considered, designed and decorated to the highest of standards creating a beautiful elegant property.

The current owners and management have taken special care to retain the period features of the Victorian era alongside the most up-to date modern amenities. It is this mix of new and old that makes Roxford Lodge Hotel in Dublin so unique.
